Tablet Shards open 25 treasure chests inside Oblivion Palace, four chambers behind the amnesiac princess. Shards cost nothing, weigh nothing and are never lost, so collect first and trade when you are ready. Each chest wants a fixed cumulative total in Roman numerals from I upward — 3, 6, 9, 12, 16 and on up to 99 — and the demo's 12 shards open exactly the first four 1-Star chests: Vitality Charm, Earrings, a Magicite Shard and the Stagger Ring. Oblivion Palace is southeast of Grandport Harbor in the Kingdom of Grandshelt and reads as danger level zero; it is a hub, not a dungeon.

More context

Two of the Ancient weapons behind the shards — the Ancient Firearm at 76 and the Ancient Whip at 84 — are part of the Twelve Legendary Arms, so the shard ladder and the weapon trophy are the same grind.

Where Oblivion Palace is and how the trade works

Oblivion Palace sits southeast of Grandport Harbor in the Kingdom of Grandshelt, on the Lanzelt stretch. It is not a dungeon: danger level zero, one save point, one occupant. A princess who does not remember who she is stands there, and the trade is the only thing she offers.

Shards cost nothing, weigh nothing, and stay permanent in your inventory. Hand them over and the chambers behind her open according to how many you have given — she puts it as caches of treasure unlocked according to the number of tablet shards thou canst gather. There is no penalty for holding them, so gather first and trade when you are ready to leave.

How the chest counting works

Each chamber numbers its chests with Roman numerals from I upward, and each chest wants a fixed cumulative total rather than that many since your last visit: chest I of the 1-Star chamber wants 3 shards in total, not 3 more. With 12 shards you have 1-Star chests I through IV open and nothing beyond them. The princess herself does not know the final count — she says she knows not how many fragments there be in all — so plan against the ladder below rather than against a stated maximum.

Up the stairs past where you fought Gilgamesh — see the Gilgamesh plan.

If your counter says you are short

Those twelve mapped spots carry you to the 12-shard mark. A separate Chapter 1 count from the community wiki lists 17 shards across the same ten areas, so Grandshelt Castle, the Commercial District and the Earth Shrine can hold extras the mapped list does not itemise. Pick up every shiny object you pass — shards are permanent and cost nothing to bank — and note that six of the ten areas are towns rather than dungeons, so a slow sweep of the town centres is most of the work.

RegionMappedMap cues

Dilmagia, the Machinopolis

2

From the shipyard Mechabo take the left stairs and follow left to the end of the hallway; and take the right stairs, follow right to the middle of the hallway and check beside a metal column.

Mt. Thunderclap

3

Pay 1,000 gil to Lid for the ladder left of the dungeon entrance (or use the back entrance), climb and follow the path; then the right corner near the ascending path; then the path east of the Sanctum of Zidane, where the spark is tucked by the cliffside.

Dwarven Forge

2

Left of the weapon shop, down from the large bomb enemy, cross the metal bridge then south to the hallway end; and after the Mom Bomb, go south — the shard is left of the dwarf mining ore.

Mobliz Shipyard

1

Behind the box in the first area's leftmost corner.

Wind Shrine

3

Use a crystal to summon the elevator and reach the upper-right edge; take the elevator down from the upper-left area, go west and check the right side of the stairs near another elevator; and the top-left of the final elevator platform leading to the dungeon's second save point.

Reaching the 99-shard target

The publicly mapped list accounts for 23 individually located shards; the ladder needs all 99, so the rest are still being documented region by region. Treat every shiny object, chest and side-path pickup as a potential shard until the counter reads what you need, and check the counter after each region rather than at the end so you know which chamber you have opened.

FAQ

How many Tablet Shards are there in FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE?

The game holds 99, and 99 is also the threshold on the final chest, so a complete run opens everything. The demo carries 12, which opens the first four 1-Star chests at Oblivion Palace — Vitality Charm, Earrings, a Magicite Shard and the Stagger Ring. Twenty-five chests sit behind the Enigmatic Princess across four chambers, and the ladder runs 3, 6, 9, 12, 16 and on up to 99.
